1 Timothy 3:16

“Beyond all question, the mystery of godliness is great: He appeared in a body, was vindicated by the Spirit, was seen by angels, was preached among the nations, was believed on in the world, was taken up in glory.”

1. It was no ghost that in the manger lay
No ball of phosphor light, nor apparition deep.
But He appeared in human flesh
And cried real tears, and lulled Himself to sleep.

2. It was no trick that at the wedding made
No sleight of hand, nor ‘turn the other way’.
But He was proved and tested before men
And turned the water into wine, and blest that nuptial day.

3. It was no lie that stirred the herald’s song
No cruel mistake, nor error of the pen.
But He was preached on to the world
And all the world was given hope to start again.
